Below is the list of downloads and platform-specific notes.
Mac OS X
Requirements
- G4 or Intel Macintosh
- Mac OS X 10.4
Installation
- Download DreamZZT 3.1.500 for Macintosh
- Drag the DreamZZT icon to your Applications folder
DreamZZT for Macintosh uses Sparkle to stay up-to-date. When a new version of DreamZZT is available, you will be notified and prompted whether to automatically upgrade.
Windows
Requirements
- Windows 98, 2000, XP, or Vista
- DreamZZT requires an OpenGL-accelerated video card, if your card does not provide OpenGL acceleration, use DreamZZT-lite instead.
Installation
- Download the DreamZZT 3.1.500 Windows Installer or DreamZZT-lite 3.1.500 Windows Installer
- Run the installation wizard
- DreamZZT will create an icon on your Start Menu
- The installer will associate DreamZZT with ZZT and SAV files
Linux
DreamZZT for Linux is currently only available for Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn). For other distributions, please see BuildFromSource.
Requirements
- Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty Fawn)
- X drivers that provide OpenGL acceleration
Installation
- Download DreamZZT 3.1.500 for Ubuntu Linux
- Run the following: sudo dpkg -i dreamzzt_3.1.500_i386.deb
- You may need to log out and back in for the file associations to work
If you would prefer to use the DreamZZT APT repository, add the following to /etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://dev.c99.org/DreamZZT/ binary/
Then you can install DreamZZT with the Synaptic package manager, or with the following command:
apt-get update apt-get install dreamzzt
Ubuntu's software update manager will keep DreamZZT up-to-date for you automatically. If you'd like to upgrade DreamZZT yourself, you can use the following command:
apt-get upgrade dreamzzt
You may need to log out and back in again for the file type associations to work.
Dreamcast
Requirements
- Dreamcast capable of booting MIL-CD format discs
- CD Burner
- A VMU with enough free blocks to save your game (Town of ZZT requires 37 blocks per save)
Installation
- Download DreamZZT 3.0.8 for Dreamcast
- Burn with SelfBoot Inducer or Mac Dream Tool
- Place additional ZZT games in the root of your CD
